This online Oral Fluid Collector training for DOT specimen collections and drug testing includes: Basic Training and Qualification training, as required by 49 CFR Part 40. This online training course covers in detail the rules and regulations pertaining to the Oral Fluid Specimen Collector's role in the Department of Transportation drug testing process. DOT Specimen Collectors must receive "qualification training" in order to comply with the Federal regulations included in 49 CFR Part 40. This qualification training course includes the DOT-required information such as: (1) All steps necessary to complete a collection correctly and the proper completion and transmission of the CCF;  (2) “Problem” collections (e.g., situations like “dry mouth” and attempts to tamper with a specimen);  (3) Fatal flaws, correctable flaws, and how to correct problems in collections; and  (4) The collector's responsibility for maintaining the integrity of the collection process, ensuring the privacy of employees being tested, ensuring the security of the specimen, and avoiding conduct or statements that could be viewed as offensive or inappropriate. Note: No online or self-study training program provides complete Collector training (or certification) as required by the Department of Transportation regulations. After completing this online, self-paced portion of the qualification training, the Collector must also demonstrate their proficiency in DOT oral fluid collections by completing five (5) mock error-free collections under the observation of a qualified monitor/instructor using the specific oral fluid collection device(s) they will use in the real world. The instructor must monitor and evaluate the collector's performance and attest in writing that the mock collections were error-free. A form is included in the course for you to properly document your five mock collections with your monitor after completion of this portion of the training. The DOT requires that Specimen Collectors repeat their training every five years -- both parts of qualification training: (1) Rules and regulations training along with training on proper collection procedures and documentation in all collection situations; (2) as well as the proficiency demonstration (5 mock collections). Bonus: This course contains several interactive role-plays/simulations that require the oral fluid collector student to make decisions in simulated real-world situations relating to oral fluid collection procedures. This allows the collector student the opportunity to engage in critical thinking to address various situations they may encounter in the field. Read more
